Sample ramblings
I feel a pang of nostalgia for the 2000's and it feels really strange. I was there at the time, and yet I can hardly remember what life was like. People didn't give a shit about anything back then; casual bullying was a sport for millions. That I remember well -- I would be bullied for looking fat, and I would bully people for liking Black Veil Brides. This was just nature's way back then. I don't think young people today could cope with it. I've been temping at a school recently and have seen "the youth" up close. Man, I feel so sorry for them. They're almost entirely beset with smartphone-induced infirmity that's going to take hard work to change. The smattering of kids that are of sound constitution will go very far, which is great to see.
I also discovered a way to show people very quickly that AI is bollocks and possesses neither powers of cognition nor any intelligence: just open the newspaper and ask it to solve a cryptic crossword clue. It usually won't get it right then goes bonkers trying to convince itself the four letter answer it's given to a six letter problem is actually correct. It confounds these systems because they do not think. All I'm trying to demonstrate is that if AI cannot solve a crossword, what makes you think it can truly make decisions? It responds to input. Yes, the output is likely to be satisfactory based on that, but buyer beware: that's all it can do.
You can buy remakes of old computers these days. I wonder if that's what is next? We all go back to the land with old computers while also scrolling aimlessly on Instagram for hours. I would not mind having such an old computer if I only used it for personal stuff or simple text-based applications, but I still want some kind of internet access to make it interesting. Maybe the Amiga 1200 remake is capable of something like that. I could always just buy a Raspberry Pi and make it into a computer.
